Batik drawing is one way to do team building. Especially the group is mix of different races and nations.
Multinational companies used to have regional meeting in Kuala Lumpur. After their long day meeting, it is good to have some team building or get to know each other activity.
Drawing batik at Jadi Batek Gallery is one the good option. It is because Jadi Batek is located at city center and the place is big enough for 100 people at the same time. Moreover, batik is one the most famous Malaysian handicraft and it represent a good opportunity for the foreign guests to know more about Malaysian cultural heritage.
There are 2 major ways to conduct batik drawing for purpose of team building.
Some company divided the participants into different group. Each group do a piece of batik and our artist will choose the best master piece. Later, the group can bring back their batik do decorate in their office or organization. It is good experience for the team to work together.

Mr.Peter T Knowles from Australia visited Jadi Batek Gallery and tried batik drawing.
After he finished drawing his own batik masterpiece, he asked the artist to custom make batik necktie for him. The design of the batik tie is very unusual. It is with an EYE on it. Anyway, our artist managed to draw what he has requested.
Few days later, He came back to collect and was very happy with the his new batik ties. It is very unique and no other people can have it.
We later find out that Peter is an ocularist stations in Sunway Medical Centre Eye Clinic.
Peter offers premium artificial eye service to the people of Malaysia and surrounding regions. He is aslo a founding member of the Ocularist Association of Australia and currently the President of the Association, as well as holding the position of Oral & Maxillofacial Body Prosthetist with the South Australian Northern regional Health Department. Peter has been involved in research programmes and trials to develop and improve all aspects of Ocular Prosthetic services.

We transformed it into batik painting as follows:

The customer likes it very much. The big 2 butterflies represent husband and wife. The rest of the butterflies represent their children. The meaning is very important to Chinese because they love to have many children in the family.

Last friday, I got a call from a girl. She asked me whether she can draw a buddha with batik.
“Sure, you can. You can draw anything with batik. Your only limit is your imagination.” I answered.
“But I can’t draw well.” She was worried.
“Don’t worry, my artists will guide.” I ensured her that although my artist is not Buddhist, he can help her without question.
Based on a photo, the girl managed to draw the wax outline of Buddha with Chanting.

The next step is coloring. The result was fantastic.

The girl is going to donate the batik painting to a temple. She is such a kind girl.

Batik Boutique Hotel in Kuching
Monday, June 14th, 2010 | batik, travel | No Comments
An enterprising woman, Jacqueline Fong opened a boutique hotel based with batik theme in Kuching, Malaysia. Although batik is Malaysia’s famous handicraft, It is my first time to know someone build a hotel based on batik motif.
The Batik Boutique Hotel has only 15 rooms and target the growing number of flashpackers (wealthier backpackers), families, independent and business travellers who want comfort and character.
You can find the batik motif everywhere, from the hotel’s frontage to the foot stools, walls and lights. Even the bathroom floor has a beautiful batik design.
“I just love batik and so have invested a lot in the design (of the hotel). It would be easy to expand the hotel into a chain around South-East Asia in the future as batik is synonymous with the region,” grins Fong.
For more information about the hotel, please refer to the www.batikboutiquehotel.com
